GBR Marathon

Run for the Reef/Great Barrier Reef Marathon

Run for the Reef is a series of fundraising running events to support our national treasure of the Great Barrier Reef. From 2017 they will held simultaneously throughout far north Queensland and across the Pacific Ocean to Singapore. They are a precursor to the Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival which attracts around 4,000 people.

Cairns Airport supports national independent charity, The Smith Family, in their Learning for Life program to help disadvantaged children in Cairns to gain an education.

Cairns Special Children’s Christmas Party

This is a very special event aimed at bringing a smile to the faces of children aged from babies up to 12 years who may be suffering from life threatening illnesses, physical or intellectual impairments, domestic violence, or living in underprivileged circumstances.

 Green Corridor  The Green Corridor Project

This project revegetates and remediates the Barron River, including the Cairns Airport managed environmental reserve of Redden Island or Dungarra, at the river mouth.

  Rainforest Rescue

Rainforest Rescue has been protecting and restoring rainforests in Australia and internationally since 1998. Donations made by Cairns Airport support activity in the Daintree area where Rainforest Rescue purchase properties of high conservation value rainforest and work to protect their biodiversity and restore rainforest through planting, maintenance and weed removal.

 Turtle Rehab Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre

Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre is a voluntary non-profit organisation dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick and injured turtles, with the focus on the six species found on the Great Barrier Reef. 

 Cairns Chinese New Year Cairns Chinese New Year Festival

This vibrant round of events includes a colourful street festival, Chinese dancing, parades featuring the Chinese dragon and lions and fireworks.

Each year Cairns Regional Council hosts this colourful celebration of the region’s creative culture with a program spanning arts, entertainment, music, dance and collaborations.

 CIAF Cairns Indigenous Art Fair

This unique showcase for the region’s rich variety of indigenous art and culture attracts art lovers from across Australia and around the world.

Housed in the Centre of Contemporary Arts in Abbott Street, KickArts delivers a dynamic and diverse exhibition program, creating opportunities for local and visiting artists. The KickArts Shop features unique, high quality works of art, craft and design from Australian and international artists.
