7 Cairns Marathon Changed Traffic Conditions

Cairns will be hosting the 7 Cairns Marathon on Sunday 28 April, 2019. Between the hours of 5.00 - 8.00am, there will be changed traffic conditions for airport access.

As a result, travellers coming from the city, Edge Hill, Northern Suburbs will need to access the airport via the northern end of Sheridan Street. Travellers to the airport will need to go via the Western Arterial via Brinsmead, Stratford and Aeroglen. Allow between 45 minutes to an 1 hour travel to the Airport from these areas.

Q: I am travelling from the city to the airport, how do I get there?

A: You will need to travel via Reservoir Road, through Freshwater, Stratford, Magazine Street, past the Barron Valley Gymnastic Club to enter the Captain Cook Highway.


Q: I live in Bayview Heights (South of Cairns City), how do I get to the airport?
A: You cannot access Sheridan St at Airport Ave so you will need to travel via Reservoir Road, through Freshwater, Stratford, Magazine Street, past the Barron Valley Gymnastic Club to enter the Captain Cook Highway.


Q: I live at the Northern Beaches, how do I get to the airport?
A: As per normal travel. The Captain Cook Highway is open heading into Cairns Airport.  However, you will not be permitted to continue driving into the City.
