Airport Christmas spirit flying high

Cairns Airport will bring some special Christmas cheer today to children and families across the Far North today, through their partnership with children’s education charity The Smith Family to support disadvantaged kids who are doing it tough this year.

Cairns Airport Head of Aviation Garry Porter said it was more important than ever to support families and children in our community this Christmas.

‘After this extraordinary year, its important to remember the vulnerable in our community and to raise awareness of those who may be struggling at this time. We’re proud supporters of The Smith Family and the great work they do providing vital assistance to families and children across the Far North.’

‘The airport community has seen the impact of COVID first-hand and I’m immensely proud of the unwavering passion and support of Cairns Airport and our airport community. Their generosity to support our gift giving through fundraising, donations and BBQ’s has been terrific.”

Border Force and Home Affairs and author Christian Miller all joined forces to support Cairns Airport’s Smith Family’s Gift Appeal with over 100 gift packs being distributed to families today.

The Smith Family General Manager Queensland Alan Le May said, “We’re thrilled that so many generous Australians continue to get behind our efforts to share Christmas and we thank the team at Cairns Airport for their ongoing support. I’ve seen first-hand over many years the joy this brings to children who are sponsored on our Learning for Life program,” said Mr Le May.

“This year, The Smith Family aims to deliver toy and book packs to nearly 5,000 children across Queensland who would otherwise go without. The Smith Family distributes toys and books at Christmas time because supporting a child’s education involves more than what happens in the classroom – it’s also about enabling experiences to help children feel included.”
