Airport Community Brings Christmas Cheer

Cairns Airport will host a Children’s Christmas Party with a difference this Thursday, when they throw open their doors to bring some Christmas cheer to kids living in disadvantage in our community.

Cairns Airport Chief Executive Officer Norris Carter said the Christmas Party was a result of the great collaboration involving The Smith Family, Cairns Airport and the wider airport community.

“We’re thrilled to be running this Christmas Party.  It’s a fantastic initiative that helps kids experiencing disadvantage and their families living in our community, at a time of year that can often be challenging.”

“The response from our airport community has been overwhelmingly positive. The generosity of many companies and individuals across our airport community has been outstanding.”

“Airports are places of uniting people and putting smiles on the faces of many over Christmas, and it’s great that as an airport community, we can give some joy to those less fortunate in our region.”

Nautilus Helicopters, Cobham, Air Services Australia, Border Force, HMSHost, East Air, Lagardere Travel Retail, Cairns Airport Skills Centre, Trident, Singapore Airlines, Thrifty, Dnata Catering and the Airport Firies are all contributing to what promises to be festive day of Christmas cheer for all.

Queensland General Manager of The Smith Family, Alan Le May said he was excited to see this level of community support at Christmas and said it showed the spirit of giving was alive and well in the Far North.

“We’ve had a long standing relationship with Cairns Airport and are delighted to see our partnership expand to something as magical as a Christmas Party for kids in the Cairns community.  We’re also enormously thankful to Arup and Hilton Cairns for their support in making this Christmas Party a reality.”

83 children and their parents will attend a Christmas Party on Thursday at Cairns Airport Skills Centre.  Border Force dogs Tommy and Angus will there to spread some Christmas cheer and there will be a range of activities for the kids including a visit from the Airport Firies, Cairns Taipans and Northern Pride.
