Cairns Airport extends its support for IRONMAN Cairns and Reef to Reef

Cairns Airport is once again proud to be the naming rights sponsor of the IRONMAN Cairns, IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns and continue to support the Reef to Reef Mountain Biking event.

Richard Barker, Cairns Airport CEO said; “We have been the naming rights sponsor of this iconic event since2012, and it is with great pleasure that we have extended this sponsorship for a further three years, ensuring its place as one of the top draw cards in the Queensland events calendar.”

Each year the region welcomes thousands of athletes and their supporters to enjoy this exciting series of sporting activities in the beautiful destination and stay on after their race to experience Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef at their leisure.

Thousands of locals welcome the opportunity to participate in events alongside the best elite international competitors in the sport, and thousands more volunteer to help the amazing IRONMAN team make it all happen.

The Cairns Airport IRONMAN Asia Pacific Championship Cairns contributes around $10M to the local economy each year and coverage of IRONMAN Cairns reaches millions around the world, promoting Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef.

Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of The IRONMAN Group Oceania, thanked Cairns Airport for their ongoing support of IRONMAN Cairns, IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns and Reef to Reef.

Cairns Airport has been involved with IRONMAN Cairns since the inception of the event and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership for many years to come,” said Meyer. “The Cairns Airport IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship Cairns is a bucket-list event for athletes from across Australia and around the world and will once again showcase the incredible region in June, it truly is the race in paradise.

“After a three-year hiatus we can’t wait to welcome mountain bikers back to Reef to Reef this August with Cairns Airport providing the gateway for our riders to explore the best the area has to offer,” he said. “In the coming years our team will be working closely with Cairns Airport to promote both events, bringing athletes and their families to this amazing part of the world to train, race and play.”

To launch the 2022 event Airport CEO Richard Barker and Geoff Meyer, Managing Director, The IRONMAN Group Oceania were joined by professional triathlete Sarah Thomas on an iconic sand cay on the world heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.
