Jetstar to add more flights between Cairns and Newcastle

Jetstar has today added 110 additional direct services between Newcastle and Cairns, operating from 25 June, until 29 October 2022.

The service will be operated by A320 aircraft three days per week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and is expected to carry up to 4000 passengers per month.

Jetstar will continue to monitor demand and assess whether the route will be extended beyond October.

The current seasonal services operated between December and 30 April, with the new seasonal service launching in time for the mid-year school holiday peak.

“It is fantastic news that Jetstar are extending the services to Newcastle during our peak season. Despite the challenges on many routes in early 2022, we have seen consistent demand from the Newcastle region to visit Cairns and Far North Queensland, and we are confident, based on current trends, that winter in the tropics will appeal to the regional NSW market” said Richard Barker, CEO Cairns Airport.

Support for the recovery of domestic aviation from both The Queensland Government and Tourism Tropical North Queensland has enabled routes such as Newcastle-Cairns to deliver capacity into Far North Queensland over and above traditional capital city markets.

“We have also seen strong demand from our local region to travel to NSW’s Hunter Valley and sample the delights of one of Australia’s premier wine regions via Newcastle Airport’ added Richard.
