Quality portfolio of brands announced for Cairns Airport

Cairns Airport has announced the first phase of new specialty retail stores for the Domestic Terminal Upgrade with an exciting array of global travel and independent specialty retailers in the line-up.

Chief Commercial Officer of Cairns Airport, Tracey Groves said the selection was based on a range of local, national and international names and came after an extensive review of what travellers told us they wanted to see in our terminal, and our aspiration to enhance the traveler experience, by offering choice and selection for all passengers.

‘The new line up consists of the best of international specialty brands and offers something for everyone, with an outstanding range of new quality names and concepts. The increased selection will offer greater choice for all international and domestic passengers who pass through our terminal.’

Some of the more well-known brand names that have been announced include; Seed, Billabong and Lorna Jane as well as a great range of new and innovative concept stores such as Kaboom/Lego and The Cairns Store, showcasing the best of quality gift ware from across the Far North.

Other new innovative concepts announced in the line-up include Blow and Go, where passengers will be able to  enjoy a range of express hair services and Kaboom and Lego, a new retail concept that caters for children with a an extensive selection of craft products, toys and stationery.

There will be a total of 35 new or expanded retail concepts going into the Domestic Terminal upgrade including a local specialist chocolatier and other clothing, gift ware, tech and luggage options including locally inspired products.

Lagardere Travel Retail, Produce of Australia and a number of independent operators will operate the specialty retail stores in the terminal.  They will join HMSHost and Red Rock who are pioneering leaders in operating hospitality businesses services across Australian airports.

‘We feel confident that we have the very best selection of retail offerings to meet the needs of all our passengers and are very excited to have such significant global and local retailers aligned to deliver the aspirations of the airport, across our food, beverage and specialty retail outlets,’ Ms Groves said.

The T2 upgrade that commenced in February saw the opening of the first new outlet Macchinetta last week, with further stages of the redevelopment due for completion in the second half of next year.

The airports $55 million upgrade currently employs 350 local contractors from across the region and on completion will provide an additional 150 jobs in the new food and beverage and specialty retail outlets.  The expanded terminal will cater for the six million passengers a year that are expected by 2027.
